Plot Summary
King Hrothgar, ruler of the Danes, builds a mead hall called Heorot where all of his people can come together and feast. But the monster Grendel attacks Heorot every night in which he kills the people of the Danes. When the great hero Beowulf hears of this chaos he travels to Heorot to help them out. He does this because Hrothgar helped Beowulf’s father a while back. Beowulf announces that he will fight Grendel himself. Once Grendal returns to attack Heorot, Beowulf attacks him. They wrestle until Beowulf rips off Grendal’s arm and he runs away to die. Then Beowulf and the people of the Danes celebrate in a feast. But then Grendal’s Mother comes to avenge her sons death. Beowulf finds her in the lake where Beowulf proceeds to fight her. Beowulf grabs a swords and slays Grendel’s mother. There is even more of a celebration because Beowulf has now killed two monsters. Beowulf decides his time at the Danes has come to an end and says goodbye to King Hrothgar, who praises him and thinks of him like a son, and sails back to Geatland. Beowulf then becomes the King of the Geats. One day Beowulf is encountered by a dragon that keeps attacking the Geats. Beowulf and some warriors go to attack the dragon, however when they see the dragon the warriors run away and it is only Beowulf. Beowulf then defeats the dragon but gets hurt while fighting him. Beowulf then dies and the Geats have a funeral for him.
